Roasted Hazelnuts

2003-11-26 2 1 hazelnuts first coursesidevegetarian

Robin grew up with roasted filberts. Early on in our relationship, when we were trying to establish our own traditions, we found that we could not find filberts anywhere. Eventually, we figured out that most people refer to them as hazelnuts. They are very simple to prepare and fun to crack open - perfect for holiday gatherings. Originally served as part of Leftovers Before Thanksgiving.

Servings & Time

  • Serves: 8
  • Prep Time: 2 min
  • Cook Time: 20 min

Tools & Appliances

  • Cookie Sheet
  • Nut Cracker
  • Sheet Pan

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces large, whole, in shell hazelnuts

Instructions

We begin by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. We spread our nuts on a foil-covered sheet pan.

When the oven is hot, we put in the nuts and roast for 15 minutes. Using potholders, we shake the pan and then continue roasting in the oven. We cook for another 5 minutes until desired doneness.

We pour the cooked nuts to a large serving bowl and let cool. When cool, we crack open with our nut crackers and enjoy!
