Meals from July 2004

2004-07-04 And on the Fourth...

Last night was family fireworks night. Tonight we celebrate the Fourth of July with a cookout, albeit with a non-traditional menu. We choose tuna for dinner in an effort to diversify our seafood. As a family, we simply cannot refuse good salmon, but the tuna tonight makes us forget our favorite fish (almost).

2004-07-23 Moving Soup

Aunt Erin moved into her first home yesterday. We helped. A little. By the time we arrived, all that was required of us was for Chris to help move a dresser. What does this have to do with dinner tonight? Half the meal consisted of leftovers from Fortunatos—a fabulous little pizzeria near Erin’s new home.

2004-07-25 Egg Salad Sunday

We enjoy a simple Sunday dinner. The sandwiches were quite tasty and had the added benefit of being utilitarian in that we needed to use last Sunday’s eggs from the farmer’s market. Since eggs are best boiled a week after they are fresh, today was the perfect day for hard boiled eggs. And these sandwiches were the perfect way to end a fun weekend.

2004-07-27 Okra and Grits—Not Kid Favorites

The kids greeted this meal cooly. “What is that?” “Is that the baby’s rice cereal?” We had hoped that they might try a little and find that they liked either okra or grits. Alas, it was not to be.

2004-07-29 Another Day

Normally, we anticipate meals. Tonight’s dinner anticipates another meal. The bread aside, each item on the menu will be re-used in grilled pizza that we will have in a day or two. For a meal whose primary purpose was the basis of a future meal, tonight’s dinner was pretty darn good.
